Teva Pharmaceuticals spokeswoman Denise Bradley points out that although 70 workers at the company's Irvine, CA, facility received pink slips, as we reported Tuesday, they had received WARN notices back in May, when the company announced its exit from the propofol business. WARN stands for the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, a federal requirement that employers provide 60 days' notice of mass layoffs.

Bradley says via email that the employees who were let go received both severance and outplacement services.

The facility, which is currently in voluntary shut-down mode while the company works on process improvements, is the manufacturing home of some 50 injectable products. It was the subject of an FDA warning letter last December for a 13-item list of GMP violations.

Several hundred people still work there, she says. And the company expects to resume production "in the near future."
