Service targets home-use sharps disposal
Six biopharma companies have so far signed with Sharps Compliance Corp. to manage the return of syringes from consumers. The company is capitalizing on formative efforts at the state and federal levels intended to involve manufacturers in the safe disposal of sharps used in homes.
The Sharps Disposal By Mail System relies on pre-posted containers, reports Pharmaceutical Commerce. Consumers use them to deliver the waste via USPS to a treatment facility. The service provides for container tracking.
The company has also begun a service called RxTakeAway for disposing of unused pharmaceuticals from households.
