Product and European facility target cold chain
UPS has inaugurated a facility for healthcare logistics in Europe. The facility caters to the pharmaceutical, biotech and medical device industries.
The new distribution center joins three existing buildings on the UPS Supply Chain Solutions European logistics campus in Roermond, in southern Netherlands. It provides temperature-sensitive storage, quality assurance services and healthcare-compliant inventory management with connection to UPS's pan-European and global freight and express package transportation network, according to an announcement. The multi-client facility measures 20,000 square meters. It began operating last spring.
In other supply chain news, Coldpack announced that it will preview the Pharmaceutical Pouch at the PACK EXPO tradeshow this week in Las Vegas. The "high-performance inflatable thermal envelope" is environmentally friendly, the company says. The pouch is based on Coldpack's AirLiner technology to ensure that temperature-sensitive shipments remain within the necessary +2°C to +8°C temperature range during transportation.
