Pharma contributions drop as PACs begin speaking Democrat

Tools

The year 2008 saw some $15 million in lobbying contributions from pharmaceutical manufacturers, with individual contributions about half that of political action committees. The total split 52 percent for Republicans and 48 percent for Democrats. 2010 is expected to see a big dropoff-to just $1.4 million, with the split changing to 53 percent for Democrats, 47 percent for Republicans. The dropoff marks the reversal of a growth trend that began in 2004, when contributions totaled about $10 million. 2004 was also a huge dropoff, from $22 million in 2002, of which 80% went to Republicans.
