Takeda's first manufacturing facility outside of Japan, an API plant, has opened in Dublin, thanks in part to the efforts of investment promotion agency IDA Ireland and the South Dublin County Council.

The multi-product plant joins the company's finished product operations on the Emerald Isle, located 15 miles south in Bray. Takeda cites expanding sales in the Europe and the U.S. as driving the decision to open the Dublin plant, which is used in the making of active ingredients for diabetes and sleep disorder drugs.

The Takeda announcement follows by less than two weeks a Pfizer announcement that it will invest $16 million in an R&D plant in Cork. IDA Ireland was also behind that deal. The new lab will be used to develop manufacturing technology to improve production process efficiency. It is currently under construction.
