Compass enters potent-compound ring
Contract packager Compass Pharma Services of Clifton, NJ, joins Swiss pharmaceutical group Helsinn as among the latest to jump into the potent compounds game.
Compass said in late July that it had completed a capital investment project to upgrade its production capabilities to ISO Class 8 specs. The improvements equip the company to provide contract packaging services for such select compounds as enzymes, antibiotics, antifolates, antimetabolites and some hormones. The potent-compound capability augments the micro and nanofill technologies implemented last February.
In June, Helsinn announced plans to create a competitive manufacturing organization focused on highly potent compounds, with plants in Switzerland and Ireland. And both DSM Pharmaceuticals and SAFC, a member of the Sigma-Aldridge group, have recently been granted certifications, for the appropriate parts of their facilities, for the handling of potent compounds by SafeBridge, an assessor of potent compound suites for occupational safety.
