Chinese pharma orders freeze dryers

Chinese API maker Zheiiang Hisun Pharmaceutical Co. has placed a $21 million order for freeze dryers with automatic load and unload systems. The order, for seven freeze dryers, signals Hisun expansion into formulated pharmaceutical products for injection in the areas of oncology and infective diseases, says freezer maker GEA Lyophil.

Hisun is said to be planning a $143-million investment in facilities in Fuyang, where the freeze dryers will be used, making it one of the biggest pharmaceutical production sites in China. The drug maker's products include anti-infection, anti-parasite, endocrine regulation, immunosuppressant and antidepressant drugs. The company exports more than 80% of its products and has a presence in 30 countries in the Far East, Europe and the U.S.

Another GEA Group unit--GEA Pharma Systems--earlier unveiled an inline blender for use between its continuous granulation/drying system and a tablet press, combining two production steps.
