A human rabies vaccine made by the Wuhan Institute of Biological Products in central China has been voluntarily recalled, according to China's drug regulator. High levels of an endotoxin were found in one batch, which had been packaged into nearly 11,000 doses.

The SFDA estimates that more than 8,000 of the doses had been used. No adverse events have been reported.

Last month, the SFDA fined a unit of Simcere Pharmaceutical $3.75 million for producing substandard human rabies vaccine. And the unit had to cover the cost of re-vaccination, another $3.4 million.
